Nokia 2705 Shade – the Tiny and Affordable Basic Phone

The Nokia 2705 Shade, released for Verizon Wireless as a replacement to the 2605 Mirage, is a simple yet stylish clamshell handset for budget-minded users. As an entry-level device, the 2705 Shade has a nice look while offering some functional features, such as web browsing, GPS navigation and a 1.3-megapixel camera.

Measuring 3.32" high by 1.70" wide by 0.64" deep and weighing 2.6 ounces, the Shade is one of the most compact and portable phones available on Verizon. Users can change the Xpress-on cover of the phone to the color they like. It boasts double displays: a 1.36-inch 262k external display (128x160 pixels) that shows caller ID, and a 2.0-inch internal display supporting 262,144 colors and 176x220-pixel resolution.

The Shade features an easy-to-use 5-way keypad for dialing and texting. Other than sending and receiving text and multimedia messages, it also provides instant messaging with support for popular IM services including AIM and Windows Live Messenger. You can pay for downloading Mobile Email from Verizon to enjoy access to your personal email accounts as well.

The Shade comes packed with some useful functions. You will find a phonebook for storing up to 1000 contacts, 2.5mm headset jack, micro-USB port, Bluetooth 2.1 support, voice commands and voice dialing. There is 62MB internal memory onboard but it does not allow for memory expansion. The 1.3-megapixel full-focus camera can take pictures in four resolutions.

Additional features include VZ Navigator for GPS guided directions and access to more than 15 million points of interest. Moreover, users can surf the Internet using the WAP 2.0 web browser. A variety of display themes, wallpaper, banners and clock formats can also be downloaded for customizing your phone.

The features found on the Nokia 2705 Shade are not top-notch, but are quite functional. If you are looking for a simple cell phone that focuses on voice communications, you may take the Shade into your consideration.
