One year after the release of the Samsung Delve, U.S. Cellular has finally brought us another Samsung touchscreen phone: the Samsung Caliber SCH-r850. Running on the manufacturer’s customizable TouchWiz user interface, the Caliber is a slim 3G-capable handset packed with a 3.0-megapixel camera, full HTML browser, stereo Bluetooth and more advanced features.To begin with, the Caliber has an attractive 3.2-inch 262k-color touchscreen display showing 240x400-pixel resolution. Offering tactile feedback to both finger and stylus touch, the phone allows you to adjust the vibration intensity. Besides, with the integrated accelerometer, it lets you mute incoming calls by turning the screen face down, and shift between the alphanumeric keypad and the landscape QWERTY keyboard by rotating the phone.
The Caliber’s TouchWiz OS features three home screens which you can customize with various widgets. The widgets support quick launch of social networking applications such as Facebook, MySpace and Twitter, as well as streaming video sources like YouTube. You can simply shake the phone to reset all widgets, or flip through different home screens by swiping your finger horizontally.
As for Internet surfing, the full HTML browser with Flash Lite support allows you to view pages in full-screen mode and bookmark your favorite websites. Zooming in and out is easy using finger touch, the volume rocker or the onscreen magnifying glass. Connecting with friends and family is also convenient via text messaging, multimedia messaging or email.
The Caliber sports with a 3.0-megapixel camera with auto focus, LED flash and digital zoom capabilities, which doubles as a camcorder for video recording. Moreover, there is a music player that can be sent to the background while running other applications of the phone.

Measuring 4.55 by 2.23 by 0.47 inches and weighing 3.59 ounces, the Samsung Caliber is compact enough to be slipped into your pant’s pocket. Its slim form factor, responsive touch-based display, together with a set of decent messaging and web browsing features makes it a nice addition to U.S. Cellular’s lineup.
