Samsung Code SCH-i220 – the Low-priced Basic Smartphone

Released by MetroPCS, the Samsung Code SCH-i220 is the first Windows Mobile 6.1 smartphone from the carrier. While it is not equipped with the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 software, it is still a solid messaging device with 3G support and a set of comprehensive smartphone features considering its attractive price tag.

The Code comes with all the standard Windows Mobile features, such as Internet Explorer Mobile and Microsoft Office Mobile for viewing and editing MS Office documents. Though running on the Windows Mobile 6.1 version, the handset can also link to Windows Marketplace for Mobile, where you can search and download many applications. MetroPCS has put its own app store on the phone as well.

With support for Microsoft Direct Push Technology and Microsoft ActiveSync, you can synchronize your Outlook calendar, contacts and other personal data via an Exchange server. You can also access to your POP3 and IMAP email accounts, including AOL, Gmail and Yahoo Mail. For instant messaging, the phone comes preloaded with Windows Live Messenger. It also offers text and multimedia messaging.

In addition, the Code sports with some basic multimedia functions. There is a 2-megapixel camera with video recording ability. The Windows Media player plays a variety of music and video files, such as MP3, AAC, WMA, MPEG4 and WMV formats. It also supports stereo Bluetooth and has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The phone is equipped with GPS to work with the preloaded MetroNavigator to provide voice-guided driving directions and traffic alerts. Other useful features of the phone include a micro-USB port, speakerphone, speed dialing, voice dialing and memory expansion with a microSD memory card up to 32GB.

The slate phone features a full QWERTY keyboard with large keys, and a landscape oriented QVGA (320x240 pixels) display measuring 2.4 inches, which gives clear text and images. The Code is a compact and lightweight phone at 4.6 by 2.3 by 0.5 and 3.6 ounces.
