Kyocera X-tc M2000 – Virgin Mobile’s Prepaid Messaging Phone

Virgin Mobile has brought a new face to its lineup of basic messaging handsets – the Kyocera X-tc M2000. As a slider phone with a large screen and a full QWERTY keyboard, it is made for staying connected on the go using its email, instant messaging and social networking capabilities.

The Kyocera X-tc has a simple and solid design, measuring 4.4 by 2.0 by 0.7 inches and weighing 4.2 ounces. The 2.4-inch color display (262k colors, 240 x 320 pixels) will automatically switch its orientation between portrait and landscape mode, thanks to the built-in accelerometer. Pushing the screen to the left reveals a QWERTY backlit keyboard underneath, which comes in handy when texting.

Keeping in touch with your friends and family is easy with the full messaging options offered by the Kyocera X-tc. Not only is it capable of text and multimedia messaging, an instant messaging client is also onboard to support AOL and Yahoo Messenger. Besides, you get a Mobile Email application that connects to various IMAP/POP3 accounts, including AOL, Yahoo and Comcast.

For mobile Internet surfing, you can use the integrated WAP 2.0 browser or download the alternative Opera Mini browser. The phone comes preloaded with Facebook and MySpace apps. There is also a downloadable social networking app called Connect, which merges popular social networks into one client with one log-on.

If you want to enjoy music, you can play MP3 files using the digital music player. You will find dedicated music keys below the screen. The phone also supports the carrier’s Headliner music service, which gives you the latest news, reviews, artist bios and more music-related information.

Other productivity and communication features on the phone include a 2.5mm headset jack, a 500-entry phonebook, stereo Bluetooth, speakerphone, voice-activated dialing and a 1.3-megapixel camera with digital zoom and photo editing abilities. There is 72MB internal memory and the phone’s storage expansion slot accepts a microSD memory card of up to 8GB.

Overall, the Kyocera X-tc M2000 offers satisfactory features with an affordable price tag. Considering the limited selection of texting devices offered by Virgin Mobile, this is surely a welcomed addition to the carrier’s lineup.
