LG Shine II GD710 – Lets You Outshine Others

As the successor to the Shine CU720, the LG Shine II GD710 for AT&T makes a few improvements while keeping some great elements of the original – the cutting-edge sliding design and durable construction. Together with a selection of functional features, including 3G support, GPS, stereo Bluetooth and a 2-megapixel camera, the Shine II is a strong addition to AT&T’s mid-range lineup.

Similar to its sibling, the Shine II has a shiny metal housing that makes it a bit heavy (4.4 ounces), yet sturdy and stylish. It remains compact and slim at 4.2" long by 2.0" wide by 0.5" wide. On the front, there are a 2.2-inch 262k-color LCD screen supporting 240x320 pixels, and a five-way control pad below.

With a slide-out alphanumeric keypad, the Shine II is not exactly a messaging phone, but still offers a range of messaging options. It comes with an instant messaging client for AIM, Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger. Text and multimedia messaging are supported as well. Moreover, the phone hooks into AT&T Mobile Email, allowing you to access your AOL, Yahoo, Windows Live and BellSouth email accounts to stay in touch.

The Shine II comes with some basic multimedia functions. The built-in music player supports music formats such as MP3, ACC and MIDI. It is enhanced by music-related applications like XM Radio, Music ID and a ringtone composer. The 2-megapixel camera offers LED flash, 2X zoom, auto focus and video recording capabilities. You can also edit photos on the device using the image editor onboard.

Furthermore, AT&T brings us a full set of wireless services. Other than Cellular Video and AT&T Mobile Music, users can take advantage of the Video Share service to share live streaming videos with friends and family. Boasting GPS support, the handset also works with AT&T Navigator for up-to-date traffic information and turn-by-turn driving directions.

Beyond the above-mentioned characteristics, the Shine II also comes equipped with a 1,000-contact phone book, a full-duplex speakerphone, Bluetooth, voice commands and dialing, USB mass storage and an Opera-powered web browser. You will get 100MB internal memory, and you can expand the storage with a microSD card of up to 16GB. However, it offers a proprietary headphone jack instead of a 3.5mm one.

The LG Shine II is not necessarily a top-notch device with many high-end gimmicks, but with its reliable and sophisticated design, plus some attractive media features, it will certainly appeal to AT&T customers of younger generations.
