
Measuring 3.9" high by 1.9" wide by 0.66" deep and weighing 4.2 ounces, the i890 is a slim flip phone. On the outside, it has a 1.8-inch external LCD display with 128x160-pixels. Below the display there are three haptic feedback-enabled media touch controls. The phone also has a convenient quick-release button, which lets you flip open the handset with one hand. As for the internal display, it measures 2.2 inches while supporting 65,000 colors and 240x320 pixels.
As a push-to-talk phone, the i890 supports Nextel Direct Connect portfolio of push-to-talk services, including Group Connect, International Direct Connect, Direct Talk and Direct Send. Besides, the phone comes with a dedicated PTT button, allowing you to instantly switch from a voice call to a push-to-talk conversation.
IM-style text messaging and multimedia messaging are onboard. You can use the Openwave 7.2.7 Web browser to send and receive emails. Besides, there are a 2-megapixel camera with 4x digital zoom and video recording capabilities, a voice recorder and a 600-entry phone book. The built-in music player is compatible with a range of audio formats, such as MP3, MPEG-4, WAV, AAC, MIDI and Real Audio. In addition, with support for A-GPS, the i890 connects to Sprint Navigation for voice-guided turn-by-turn directions.
Apart from the messaging and multimedia functions, the i890 also sports stereo Bluetooth, voice-activated dialing, full-duplex speakerphone, USB mass storage, sync for Microsoft Outlook and a 2.5mm headset jack. It accepts up to 8GB of microSD memory expansion while offering 180MB of internal memory.
Unlike some of the rugged Nextel devices, the Motorola i890 is slim, attractive and pocket-friendly. Together with the ability to keep users constantly in touch with their contacts, it will certainly interest both the blue- and white-collar users.
