It seems customers who have been waiting for Apple's white iPhone 4 will not be able to get what they want anytime soon. In a recent brief statement, the company announced that the availability of the white models is pushed back again until later this year.
The white iPhone 4 was initially expected to hit store in late July. Apple did not specify the reason for the further delay, but admitted that the white version has continued to be more challenging to manufacture than they originally expected. Sources said the problem was mainly related to the glass cover, as the manufacturer was struggling to get the correct thickness and opacity of the white coating Apple wanted.
No specific release date for the white models is mentioned in Apple's statement either. As for the black version, which went on sale on 24 June, the company said it had not been affected.
Apparently, the postponement is not the only issue Apple is dealing with. Since its launch, the iPhone 4 has been surrounded by complaints regarding its new design, or more specifically, its stainless steel bezel that doubles as an antenna. Users have been complaining about signal dropout resulted by gripping the device in a certain way. On July 16, Apple's Chief Executive Steve Jobs called a press conference and defended the performance of the device. Soon after that, the company has launched a program to offer customers free bumpers or protective cases to alleviate their discontent.
However, all these setbacks did not seem to slow down the sale of Apple's flagship handset. More than three million units were sold in less than a month. And with the device went on sale in 17 additional countries on July 30, it is foreseeable that it will continue to gain momentum and sell briskly this summer.
