BlackBerry Torch 9800 – Innovative Design, Exceptional Performance

AT&T and Research in Motion have released the BlackBerry Torch 9800, the first smartphone sporting the new BlackBerry 6 operating system while combining a touchscreen display with a physical QWERTY keyboard. With a unique design and some notable improvements brought by the OS, the Torch lives up to the expectations of many BlackBerry followers.

The Torch measures 4.37" high by 2.44" wide by 0.57" deep when closed and weighs a manageable 5.68 ounces. On the front, there is a 3.2-inch HVGA capacitive multi-touch screen with light sensing, proximity detection and an accelerometer. Hidden underneath the display is a thin slide-down keyboard with backlight, which is perfect for typing even in the dark. SureType (portrait) and QWERTY (portrait / landscape) keyboards are also offered for times you prefer on-screen text entry.
One of the top new features offered by BlackBerry 6 is the Social Feeds app, as it gives you integrated access to both social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter and MySpace) and instant messaging clients (BlackBerry Messenger, Google Talk, Windows Live, Yahoo and AIM). Text and multimedia messaging now supports group messaging and chat-style viewing. For corporate users, the Torch is equipped with BlackBerry Enterprise Server, along with BlackBerry Internet Service for access to up to ten personal or corporate POP3/IMAP email accounts.

Another great addition is the universal search box, which lets you search for not only the contents on the phone, including contacts, emails, messages, songs, videos and apps, but also the Internet and BlackBerry App World. Moreover, the OS provides a revamped Web browser that enables full-page viewing, tabbed browsing and pinch-to-zoom support.

Added with new multimedia elements, the Torch is also an engaging entertainment device. BlackBerry Desktop Software 6 syncs the handset with Windows Media Player or iTunes, and Wi-Fi Music Sync lets you download songs and playlists to the phone over your Wi-Fi network. Besides, you get a dedicated YouTube app and Podcasts app. As usual, there is a media player that supports multiple video and audio formats like MPEG4, MP3, WMA and AAC+. The built-in 5-megapixel camera with flash, auto-focus and digital zoom comes with VGA (640 x 480) video recording capabilities. There is also a 3.5mm stereo headset jack.

Additionally, AT&T has thrown in some of its own services, such as Mobile Music, Video Share and Navigator. Some extra apps like The Weather Channel and Bloomberg are pre-installed in the device as well. Other built-in functions are 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, GPS, speakerphone, voice activated dialing, 512MB flash memory, and microSD expandable memory with support for microSD up to 32GB.

The BlackBerry Torch 9800 brings together many of Research in Motion's core strengths into one superior user experience. It is a powerful device packed with everything business professionals need to get the job done.
