Sharp FX – AT&T’s Mobile TV-Capable and Messaging Device

With a slide-out form factor integrating a touchscreen and a full physical keyboard, the Sharp FX from AT&T is a quick messaging handset that reminds us much of T-Mobile's Sidekick lineup. And like the Sidekick devices, the FX is geared towards the youthful individuals with its variety of social networking and multimedia features.

On the front of the FX, there is a 3-inch resistive touchscreen display with 262K colors (TFT) and 240x400-pixel resolution. Slide the screen to the side and you will find a four-row QWERTY keyboard with large and comfortable backlit keys. Coming in at 4.5" high by 2.2" wide by 0.6" deep and weighing in at about 5 ounces, the phone remains portable and has a solid construction.
With a focus on communication, the FX offers plenty of messaging tools for heavy texters. To keep you connected to your social circle, AT&T Social Net brings together different online communities, including Facebook, Twitter and MySpace, in one place. Besides, it gives you access to a range of POP3/IMAP email accounts like AOL, Gmail, Windows Live and Yahoo Mail. Text and multimedia messaging along with instant messaging (AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger) are onboard as well.

The FX has a lot to offer in its entertainment department as well. Comes equipped with AT&T Mobile TV, it lets you watch your favorite TV programs from various popular channels and networks with a monthly subscription. Its integrated music player is compatible with MP3, AAC, WMA and other formats, while video playback supports MP4, AAC, AMR and more. The phone enables full HTML browsing with support for Java Script.

Besides, you can take advantage of AT&T's cloud-based services, Address Book, to back up your contacts, and Online Locker, to store media files like photos and videos. Other services offered by the carrier include AT&T Video Share, AT&T Music, and AT&T Navigator for audible turn-by-turn directions, traffic alerts and 3D maps.

In addition, there is a 3.5mm stereo headset jack and a 2.0-megapixel CMOS camera/camcorder. It also comes with AGPS, Bluetooth 2.1, a FM radio, a speakerphone, a 500-contact address book, 256MB flash memory (80MB available to user) and memory expansion up to 32GB via its microSD card slot.

All in all, the Sharp FX is a fun and sleek mid-range device that will satisfy the younger crowd, especially those text-crazy teens and TV addicts.
