Sanyo SCP-3810 – A Stylish Blend of Simplicity and Functionality

The Sanyo SCP-3810 for Sprint customers is a fairly basic clamshell phone, but has an easy-to-use design and packs with essential features you need for communication. Comes in two colors, Regal Red and Black Onyx, it also integrates a stylish look into a solid and compact form factor.

The SCP-3810 has dual screens: an external glow-through OLED display to show the time or caller ID, and a 2.4-inch internal QVGA LCD display with 65,536 colors. You can choose between normal and large menu fonts for better legibility. The phone measures 3.8" high by 2.0" wide by 0.7" deep and weighs 3.9 ounces.

The numeric keypad may not be perfect for typing, but its large buttons are easy to read and press. With Sprint Mobile Email, the SCP-3810 is compatible with IMAP/POP3 email accounts, as well as popular providers including AOL/AIM, Windows Live, Yahoo and Gmail. Emails are pushed to the phone as they reach your desktop. Besides, instant messaging, multimedia messaging and threaded text messaging will also let you stay in the loop on the go.

The SCP-3810 does not come with many features, but offers all the essential ones, including a 2.5mm headset jack, WAP 2.0 browser, 300-contact address book, Bluetooth 2.0, USB mass storage and speaker-independent voice dialing. Moreover, you will find a 1.3-megapixel camera with digital zoom for you to take photos and publish them on Facebook, Myspace and Photobucket. The phone only comes with 12MB internal memory and does not support storage expansion.

Sprint has thrown in several services: Wireless Backup automatically stores a backup of your contacts, so as to restore them quickly in case your phone is lost; Parental Controls allows parents to restrict Internet access, texting, content purchases, voice calls and camera use for their kids.

Additionally, GPS is onboard to work with Sprint Navigation, which provides spoken and visual turn-by-turn directions, and Sprint Family Locator, which locates your family member on your phone or the web. Other applications brought by the carrier include NFL Mobile Live and NASCAR Sprint Cup Mobile.

In general, the Sanyo SCP-3810 is a simple, functional and stylish entry-level handset. Available free from Sprint with a contract, it is a nice buy if you have been angling for a budget phone that does the basics well.
