LG Cosmos VN250 – A Strikingly Chic Messaging Device at an Attractive Price

Available from Verizon Wireless, the LG Cosmos VN250 is an entry-level messaging phone that offers a roomy QWERTY keyboard and quick access to popular social networks. It has a similar slider design as the LG Rumor 2, though they don’t share the same software features.

The Cosmos sports both a numeric keypad and a four-row QWERY keyboard with dedicated messaging key. The 2-inch TFT display supports 262,000 colors and 320x240-pixel resolution, which changes from portrait to landscape view when the keyboard is slid out. The phone measures 4.41" high by 2.05" wide by 0.67" deep when closed and has a weight of 4.4 ounces.

As mentioned above, the handset is built in with social networking tools, allowing you to update statuses on Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and more with only a few clicks. You get Mobile IM for AIM, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger, apart from the basic text and multimedia messaging. Besides, text messages are threaded so that you can see a full conversation. The Cosmos also comes with Mobile Email and mobile Web email, which let you use Hotmail, Gmail and other POP or IMAP accounts.

As a budget phone, the Cosmos lacks a music player, but does come with a camera that zooms up to 2.0 times and takes 1.3-megapixel photos. With Microsoft’s Bing search engine, you can perform quick searches on the Mobile Web 2.0 browser. You also get Info Search, a new tool that lets you find contacts and files on your phone.

To give you the best voice clarity, the Cosmos automatically adjusts calls depending on the surrounding noise level. Other features include a 2.5mm audio jack, stereo Bluetooth, USB mass storage, voice commands, speakerphone and GPS along with support for Verizon’s VZ Navigator for turn-by-turn driving directions. The phone has about 19MB of internal memory and its microSD card slot supports up to 16GB of removable memory. The phonebook stores up to 1000 entries.

Although the LG Cosmos VN250 is not a strong multimedia device, it is compact, accessible and very affordable, which make it a nice messaging handset for budget-minded customers.
